Senator Dino Melaye escaped death by the whiskers as gunmen invaded his house in the early hours of Today at Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria gathered that the gunmen numbering about 10 arrived the house at about midnight through the bush and opened fire on the house from different directions.

The house was riddled with bullets while two of the vehicles parked in the estate were damaged by the hoodlums.  Melaye (APC-Kogi West), was in his country home at Ayetoro-Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area for the Easter holiday at the time of the attack .

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP William Aya, told NAN that the police received a distress call from the senator at about 1 a.m. and immediately responded.  He said the hoodlums escaped before the police arrived, thereby making arrest impossible.

On his part, Melaye said the hoodlums arrived at about midnight and started shooting sporadically at the main building in the compound.
He said the shooting lasted for almost one hour, adding that apart from the building riddled with bullets, two of his vehicles were damaged.

The senator said he suspected Mr. Taufiq Isa, the Administrator of Ijumu Local Government, as being behind the attack.  In a swift reaction, Mr. Taufiq Isa denied having a hand in the attempt on the life of the senator, saying that he had been busy for sometime taking care of his sick wife. “I’ve never been a violent man. My running battle with Dino Melaye, if any, is because I have asked him to stop vilifying the state governor, Yahaya Bello. “Let him (Dino) prove it.

I lost my uncle a week ago; I’m still attending to my sick wife and busy supervising the APC re- registration programmes.  Dino said the attack was most likely due to his incessant verbal attacks on certain elements in the state. “I got a rousing welcome from Kabba to my hometown on Friday and I know it angered the power that is in the state, which mobilised for this assassination attempt on my life.

36-yr-old woman collapses in Ibadan due to hunger, rescued by police .

IMG_20170404_182941_599
Ms Tawakalitu Adeyeye, was last week rescued by the police after she collapsed and became unconscious at Ikolaba area of Ibadan, Oyo State, around 8.30p.m. .
.
Though the cause of her collapse was unknown to passersby, many of them were said to have been reluctant to help the single mother of three out of fear. .
.
However, one of the passersby summoned courage, moved close to her and tried to resuscitate her by pouring cold water on her, all to no avail. An eyewitness reportedly put a call through to the Police who acted promptly, after which the woman was rushed to the nearest hospital. .
.
Upon regaining consciousness, the labourer said there was nothing wrong with her medically, but that she collapsed because she was hungry and had not taken anything in two days. .
.
Speaking feebly on the hospital bed, Adeyeye said: “I am a labourer, and I had gone to the Wema area, in Iwo Road, where labourers normally converge daily for menial work, but for the past one month, I have not done any work.
.
.
On the day I collapsed, I was returning home to Ijokodo, Sango area, and was trekking back like I did in the morning when I went in search of a job. I didn’t eat the previous day because I had nothing, so as I was trekking back home, I became weak and fell to the ground.”
.
.
It was gathered that her husband, a cab driver, had abandoned her and their three children, and she is left to fend for the children alone. Moved by her story, the Oyo State PPRO, Adekunle Ajisebutu, donated food items and an undisclosed amount of cash to her. .
.
The Director of Salaudeen Memorial Hospital, Ikolaba, where Tawakalitu was rushed to, Dr Rashidi Olasunkanmi Salaudeen, said she could have died if help had not come her way on time.

IMG_20170403_074124_127.jpg

The operatives of Rapid Response Squad, (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, has arrested a pick-pocket suspect who claimed to be an expert in stealing.
.
The suspect popularly known as ‘Dayo Skippo’ after being arrested at Ikeja-Under-Bridge, revealed that he has been in the theft act for a long time, adding that it is the current economic situation that led him into the crime.

The suspect, a secondary school drop-out further explained that all he needs to do is to have the slightest physical contact with his victim and their valuables are gone. “I can use my head to remove anything from your body. I will just pretend as if I know you somewhere and in the process of giving you salutations, your item is gone”, he confessed. .

He also confessed that he doesn’t perpetrate the theft alone but works with some members of his group just in case the victim becomes suspicious, they would quickly swing into action.

One of his victims who narrated his encounter with the suspect, said: “I went to Ikeja Computer Village to see a friend of mine, after seeing him on my way to the bus park I just saw someone hugged me from behind and later apologized to me when I told him I didn’t know him; before I could look around again, I discovered my phone was gone already and the guy was nowhere to be found.

I went back to my friend shop almost immediately to track my iPhone and the location I saw was that my phone was already in Lagos Island.

IMG_20170401_170042_858
.
A UK-based pastor, believed to be originally from Nigeria, has been jailed in London for sexually assaulting a girl and a woman during “private prayer sessions”. .
.
50-year-old Benjamin Egbujor, of Harold Avenue in Kent, was found guilty of sexual assault and causing a child to engage in sexual activity. His 43-year-old secretary, Rose Nwenwu, of Thurlestone Road in London, was also found guilty of aiding him and of participating in sexual assault. .
.
The Metropolitan Police said Bejamin and Rose committed the offences at their Jubilee Christian Centre (JCC) in Penarth Street in London. “Officers in the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Command started an investigation in January 2014 after a teenage girl disclosed to her family she had been abused by Egbujor,” the Met said. .
.
“The victim, who was under the age of 16, said Egbujor told her she had been chosen to attend an individual prayer session. After being taken into his private office, the girl was forced to undress and oil was poured over her.
.
.
Officers also interviewed a woman in her 30s who disclosed she had also been sexually assaulted by Egbujor. The adult victim said Nwenwu, who worked as Egbujor’s secretary, also took part in the sexual assault by taking her clothes off and pouring oil over her,” the Met police added. .
.
Egbujor was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in jail while Nwenwu received a 3-year jail sentence. They were also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will now have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register. .
.
An officer, Detective Inspector Angela Craggs, said: “I hope this conviction serves to empower victims of sexual violence to come forward and report to police, and as a warning to offenders who think they can use their position to protect them from the law.” .
.
Police Constable James Bell said: “Egbujor and Nwenwu preyed on their victim’s vulnerabilities, whilst satisfying their own sexual urges under the guise of private prayer. I fear there may be other victims who have not yet come forward and I urge them to come forward.”
